History of
Greenwatch Initiative
|
Greenwatch Initiative Makurdi, started in
2001 as an informal forum for members who were lecturers
in the University of Agriculture Makurdi to articulate
and advocate on issues affecting human development. The
forum was later re-organized and registered with
Corporate Affairs Commission Abuja as non-profit,
non-sectarian, non-religious and non-governmental
organization in 2005 to enable members participate fully
in human development programs especially environmental
protection, good governance, health information
services and poverty alleviation in Nigeria and beyond.
Governance
structure
Greenwatch Initiative is made up of a Board of
Trustees (BOT) and a Management Team. The Board of
Trustees (BOT) is responsible for policy formulation and
ratification of all programmes and strategies of the
organization. The Board is made up of a cream of
experienced and outstanding Nigerians who meet at least
twice a year to approve all recommendations of the
Management Team. The Management Team of Greenwatch
Initiative is responsible for the implementation of all
programmes and projects approved by the BOT. The
Management Team Comprises the Executive Director, who is
the Chief Executive Officer responsible for the
day-to-day running of the organization, Programme
Officers, Project Accountants and other staff. The
organization also works with Local, National and
International volunteers for the attainment of set
goals.

Administration of funds
Funds obtained from charitable organizations,
Foundations, Governmental and Non–Governmental
Organizations, are acknowledged on receipt and deposited
in the organization's accounts. All expenditures are
approved by the Executive Director and the BOT as the
case may be, and all cheques are signed by at least two
of the authorized signatories before payments are
effected.
Constitution
Greenwatch Initiative is governed by a constitution
from where some of the above information is derived.
Dissolution
On dissolution, Greenwatch Initiative must first
settle her obligations, debts and other liabilities.
Whatever is left would go to charity or other
not-for-profit organizations that share our vision.
